Privacy policy

A site about privacy should collect as little as it can. ProtectYour.com has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising pixels and no newsletter. This policy describes the small amount of information that is processed and why.

Last updated October 18, 2026 (effective date)

Who we are

ProtectYour.com is published by Silicon Valley Ventures (“we”, “us”). You can reach us about anything in this policy through the contact form (choose “A privacy request”).

What we collect and why

  • Contact form. If you write to us, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose, your message and the page you sent it from. We use these only to read and answer your message and to keep a record of the correspondence.
  • Bot protection. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated spam. Turnstile processes technical signals from your browser and your IP address when you load and submit the form. It runs on the contact page only.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request details (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Our content delivery network processes the same details.
  • Your browser only. The “Am I protected?” self-check saves your answers in your own browser’s local storage so you can come back to them. They are never sent to us, and you can clear them with the “Start over” button or by clearing site data.

We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and ProtectYour.com itself sets no cookies.

Service providers (processors)

We use these companies to run the site, each under its own privacy terms:

  • Vercel: website hosting and server logs.
  • Cloudflare: content delivery, security and Turnstile bot protection.
  • Twilio SendGrid: delivers contact form messages to our inbox.

They process information on our behalf to provide these services. We do not give them permission to use it for their own advertising.

How long we keep it

Contact form messages are not stored in a database. They are delivered to our email inbox and kept there as long as needed to deal with your message and for our records, then deleted. You can ask us to delete your correspondence sooner. Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting and delivery providers under their own retention schedules.

Affiliate links

Some links go to companies that pay us a commission (see how we make money). Those links pass through a /go/ address on this site that forwards you to the company and records nothing about you. After you click, the company or its affiliate network (such as CJ, PartnerStack or Awin) may set cookies to credit us with the referral, under its own privacy policy. We receive commission reports from those networks: order and commission data, not your name or contact details.

Sale and sharing of personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and similar state laws. We disclose personal information only to the service providers above so they can run the site for us, or where the law requires it.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct it;
  • ask us to delete it;
  • opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither); and
  • not be treated differently for exercising these rights.

To make a request, use the contact form and choose “A privacy request”. We will confirm what we hold (usually only correspondence) and may ask you to confirm the email address you used so we do not disclose someone else’s messages. You may use an authorized agent. We honor Global Privacy Control signals, although there is no sale or sharing on this site for them to switch off.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Our guides about kids are written for parents and caregivers. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, the contact form is protected against automated abuse, and we keep the information we hold to a minimum. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive details such as passwords or account numbers through the form.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If we ever add something that collects more data, such as analytics, this page will say so before it goes live.
