Key takeaways
- Go to peoplefinders.com/opt-out and scroll past the sign-up offer to the Record Suppression Form.
- Required: first and last name, street address, city and state. Optional: middle name, email, phone and date of birth.
- PeopleFinders says it will locate and remove your record within 3 days. It is free, with no trial or payment.
- Give enough detail to match every record. PeopleFinders warns an incomplete request can let information reappear.
What PeopleFinders shows
PeopleFinders is one of the older people-search brands. Like most of them, it shows basic details about a person in a free search and sells fuller reports, and its opt-out page also tries to sell you a monitoring sign-up.
The opt-out page sits at the same address as a sales pitch. It offers two things side by side: the opt-out, and a “free identity monitoring” sign-up that lets you claim your report. You only need the first.
Step 1: fill in the Record Suppression Form
As of October 2026, PeopleFinders’s opt-out page works like this:
- Open peoplefinders.com/opt-out. The page is titled Do Not Sell My Personal Information and says both options on it are free, with no trial or payment.
- Skip the identity monitoring offer and scroll to the Record Suppression Form.
- Enter your first and last name. PeopleFinders asks you to leave out special characters such as periods and hyphens; for “James Brown, Jr.” it suggests “Brown Jr” as the last name.
- Enter your street address, city and state. These are required.
- Add the optional fields if you are comfortable doing so: middle name, email, phone and date of birth. They help PeopleFinders find every record that is you.
- Review the details (you cannot edit them after submitting), tick the agreement box and submit.
PeopleFinders says that, based on what you enter, it will locate your record and remove it from its system within 3 days.
Do not invent details
The trade-off: how much to tell a data broker
It feels odd to give a data broker your phone number to make it forget your phone number. The site’s own explanation is practical: if it cannot connect a record to your request, new data about you can bring that record back. It says the information on the form is used only to process the removal.
A reasonable middle path: give your current address (it is the thing you most want gone and the site almost certainly has it), and add your phone number if a phone search on the site already shows it. Skip anything the site does not appear to hold.
Step 2: check, then repeat elsewhere
After three or four days, search your name and city on PeopleFinders again. If an older record with a past address is still there, submit the form again with that address.
PeopleFinders is one site of dozens. Our data broker opt-out list puts every opt-out link in one table, in the order we would do them. Clean up stale search results with Google’s Results about you, and if you live in California, add the state’s free DROP request.

Common questions
How do I opt out of PeopleFinders?
Use the free Record Suppression Form at peoplefinders.com/opt-out. Enter your name, street address, city and state, optionally your email, phone and date of birth, and submit. PeopleFinders says it removes the record within 3 days.
Do I have to sign up for PeopleFinders identity monitoring to opt out?
No. The opt-out page offers identity monitoring as a separate option. The Record Suppression Form further down the page is free and needs no sign-up.
Why does PeopleFinders want my date of birth?
It is optional. PeopleFinders says extra details help it match every record that belongs to you, so information does not reappear. Leave it blank rather than entering a false date.
