Data broker opt-out list: every link, what each asks for, how long it takes

16 data brokers in one table, each read from the broker's own opt-out page in October 2026: the link, what it asks you for, how it verifies you and how long it says removal takes. Every one is free. Start with the 7 marked "do first".

Key takeaways

  • Every opt-out in this table is free and none needs an account. Never pay a site to remove your own listing.
  • 10 of the 14 people-search opt-outs here confirm by email link, so set up an email alias before you start.
  • Do the free, high-ranking sites first: FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch, Spokeo, Whitepages, PeopleConnect, BeenVerified and MyLife.
  • Expect listings to return when new records arrive. Search yourself again every three to four months.

The list

Each row links to the broker’s own opt-out page and to our step-by-step guide for it. “Time” is what the broker itself says, not what we measured. Rows were checked against each broker’s page in October 2026.

What to do first, and why

You cannot do thirty opt-outs in one evening, and you do not need to. Order them by how easily a stranger would find you there:

  1. Free sites that show addresses without a paywall. FastPeopleSearch and TruePeopleSearch show current addresses and phone numbers to anyone, and rank well in search results. Clear them first.
  2. The big brands that rank for your name. Spokeo, Whitepages, MyLife, BeenVerified and the PeopleConnect group (one request covers Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and US Search). Search your name in quotes with your city; whichever of these appear on the first page go next.
  3. The lookalike free sites. USPhonebook, SearchPeopleFree and SmartBackgroundChecks use opt-out steps worded almost exactly like FastPeopleSearch’s, so once you have done one, the rest take a couple of minutes each.
  4. The rest, then the marketing brokers. PeopleFinders, That’s Them, FamilyTreeNow and AdvancedBackgroundChecks, then Acxiom. Acxiom sells marketing data rather than publishing a profile.

Before you start

Make an email alias just for opt-outs (see email aliases), and write down every name variation and every address from the last ten years. Most forms need the details to match the record exactly.

Sites that no longer need an opt-out

Some names still appear in older opt-out lists but have changed. When we checked in October 2026:

  • Radaris, Rehold and Trustoria showed a court-ordered transfer notice instead of profiles, after a New Jersey default judgment. Details in our Radaris guide.
  • PeekYou: peekyou.com showed a notice that the domain is now controlled by Atlas Data Privacy Corporation, following a settled Daniel’s Law case in New Jersey, rather than a people-search site.
  • Nuwber and ClustrMaps: nuwber.com and clustrmaps.com did not load at all for us. If either comes back, we will add it to the table.

Old search results for these sites can linger. Google’s Remove outdated content tool clears dead pages, and Results about you requests removal of results that show your phone number, home address or email anywhere.

If you live in California: add DROP

California’s free Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) sends one deletion request to every data broker registered with the state. It reaches the long tail of brokers no table like this one can cover. Do the direct opt-outs above as well: they are usually faster, and they cover sites whether or not they are registered.

Common questions

Is it free to opt out of data broker sites?

Yes. Every opt-out in our October 2026 table is free and none requires an account. A page that asks for payment to remove your listing is a paid service or a sales page, not the broker's opt-out.

Which data broker should I opt out of first?

Start with free sites that show addresses without a paywall and rank highly for names, such as FastPeopleSearch and TruePeopleSearch, then Spokeo, Whitepages, MyLife, BeenVerified and PeopleConnect. One PeopleConnect request covers Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and US Search.

How long do data broker opt-outs take?

It depends on the broker. Spokeo says 24 to 48 hours and BeenVerified usually 24 hours; FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch and similar sites say to allow 3 days; AdvancedBackgroundChecks says up to 45 days. These are the brokers' own figures from their opt-out pages in October 2026.

Will my information come back after I opt out?

Often, yes. Brokers keep receiving new public and commercial records, and a move or new phone number can create a fresh listing. Search yourself every three to four months and repeat any opt-out that is needed.
