Key takeaways

  • Go to usphonebook.com/opt-out, enter your name and an email address, and complete the captcha.
  • Click the emailed link within 24 hours and fill in the form with details that match your record.
  • USPhonebook says to allow 3 days for the request to be fully processed. It is free.
  • USPhonebook is built around reverse phone lookup, so check that your number no longer shows your name afterwards.

Why a phone lookup site matters

USPhonebook presents itself as a way to find out who owns a phone number, and it also searches by name and address. For you, that means anyone who has your number (a stranger from a marketplace listing, a scammer who got it from a leak) can type it in and get your name and address back. That is the link worth breaking.

Like other sites of this kind, it says it is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, so its results cannot legally be used for employment, credit or tenant screening.

Step 1: look yourself up three ways

Search your mobile number, your landline if you have one, your name with your state, and your street address. Write down how each matching record spells your name and which city it shows. The opt-out form asks for details that match the record, so this is the information you need.

Step 2: submit the opt-out

As of October 2026, USPhonebook’s own page describes these steps:

  1. Open usphonebook.com/opt-out.
  2. Enter your email address and name and complete the captcha.
  3. Click the link USPhonebook emails you. The site says it may take some time to arrive, and if you wait more than 24 hours to click it you will need to request a new one.
  4. Enter your information on the form. It should match the record you want opted out.
  5. A confirmation page and a confirmation email follow. USPhonebook says to allow 3 days for the request to be fully processed.

The site warns that leaving information out or getting it wrong only hinders the opt-out, and says it will not use the details for anything other than processing your request.

Free step

Use an alias address for the confirmation. Our guide to email aliases covers free options.

Step 3: confirm your number no longer resolves to you

After three or four days, run the reverse phone search on your own number again. It should no longer show your name and address. If it still does, submit the form again with exactly the name and city that record shows.

Your number can still resolve to your name on other sites. The steps on USPhonebook’s page match those on FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch and SearchPeopleFree, so it is quick to do them together. Each needs its own request. The full set is in our data broker opt-out list.

For the longer term, stop handing out your real number where you can. A free Google Voice number for marketplace sales and sign-up forms keeps your real one out of new databases.
